Kahumoku 'Ohana Hawaiian Music & Lifestyle Workshop
The popular Kahumoku Hawaiian Music & Lifestyle Workshop will return to the Pahala Plantation House for four days of hands-on instruction in `ukulele, slack key guitar, acoustic Hawaiian steel guitar, slack key bass, as well as song improvisation, chanting, song pronunciation and interpretation. The workshop will run from March 17th to the 21st. Instructors include Keoki Kahumoku, Kimo Hussey, Sonny Lim, Konabob Stoffer and Darci Baker. Participants can also enjoy private lessons and nightly kani ka pila sessions. Scholarships are also available.

Plantation House & Cottages, Historic Sugar Village

Pahala is a quiet retreat for rest and exploration of Volcanoes National Park, Hawaiian historic sites, the farms and forests of nearby Wood Valley, and dramatic coastal areas, such as South Point, a peninsula of sea cliffs jutting out into the Pacific. The U.S. Congress with help from the Nature Conservancy and Volcanoes National Park, recently purchased 116,000 acres for preservation, expanding Volcanoes National Park to surround Pahala and nearby villages.
South Point, known as Kalae, is the southern most place in the United States and the landfall for the first Polynesians to discover Hawaii many centuries ago. It creates an opportunity for appreciation for Hawaii's culture and nature.
Located at between 800 and 1500 feet elevation, Pahala weather is usually sunny and mild, with clear air. Village facilities include an excellent 25 yard swimming pool with lifeguard, tennis courts, miles of backcountry roads for driving and bicycling, a restaurant, library, bank, grocery store, sundry store, video rental store and hair dresser and hospital.

Pahala on the Big Island of Hawaii is easily reached by flying to Hilo, Hawaii and driving along scenic Highway 11 through Volcanoes National Park. The 50-minute drive takes you through orchid country and into the rainforest, across the dramatic Ka`u desert with its views of lava flows, and into macadamia country leading to Pahala Village and a friendly welcoming at Pahala Plantation Cottages.
